Scholarships for Letters & Lines Conference

Because of two very generous donors, KT Literary and Laurie Halse Anderson, the Rocky Mountain Chapter is honored to facilitate two scholarships to be awarded for attendance at the 2018 Letters & Lines conference. (For details about the conference, click HERE.) Details for each scholarship and how to apply are listed below. Please be sure to read the guidelines carefully, as they are different for each scholarship.

KT Literary Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) PB, MG, or YA writer who is a member of underrepresented/marginalized groups and who would otherwise not be able to attend the 2018 RMC-SCBWI Letters & Lines Annual Conference in Golden, CO on Sept 22-23. This scholarship will include early-bird conference tuition, an intensive, a critique by one of the KT literary agents, and if the recipient is not a member of SCBWI, a 1-year membership to the organization. Please Note: This scholarship does not cover transportation, lodging, meals, or any other costs associated with attendance and participation aside from tuition, one intensive, and membership, if needed.

Scholarship criteria will be based on applicants’ need, contribution to the #OwnVoices movement, and quality of the submitted writing sample.

Submissions will be accepted starting on June 15, 2018 and ending at 11:59pm MDT, on June 22, 2018. Submissions received outside the open-submission window will not be considered.

Laurie Halse Anderson Scholarship

Please Note: This scholarship does not cover transportation, meals, critiques, intensives, or any other costs associated with attendance and participation aside from tuition and one night at the conference hotel. The scholarship recipients must be current members of SCBWI. Applicants may apply only ONCE. Author/illustrators may either apply as an author, or as an illustrator, but not for both. Those who submit multiple applications will be disqualified.

Scholarship criteria will be based on an artist’s statement, reason to attend the conference, and quality of work (a 2-page writing sample for writers; for illustrators, 3 kidlit friendly illustrations).

Submissions will be accepted starting on June 15, 2018 and ending at 11:59pm MDT, on June 22, 2018. Submissions received outside the open-submission window will not be considered.
