Mentor Program Scholarship and Grants

The Writing Roosters Scholarship – This scholarship honors the memory of Michelle Begley who passed away in January 2015.  Michelle founded the RMC-SCBWI’s mentor program and belonged to the Writing Roosters critique group. The Writing Roosters Scholarship supports aspiring children’s book authors and illustrators who participate in the Michelle Begley Mentor Program. For the 2022 mentor session, the Roosters will award one full $530 scholarship.

The scholarship is independently funded by donors in memory of Michelle. The scholarship winner is chosen by the Writing Roosters and Michelle’s family. For information, eligibility, application instructions, and how to contribute to the scholarship, click here.

Mentor Program Grants – In addition, the Mentor Program is excited to also be able to offer two full grants in 2022 to someone who identifies as coming from a marginalized community. There will be a question on the application where you can note if you identify with a marginalized community and would like to be considered for a grant. Grants will be awarded by a random drawing among those who secure a mentor and check this box.

These grants are provided by an anonymous donor.
