PICTURE BOOK PLOT: A DEEP DIVE

What’s the deal with plot in picture books? How does it work? Why is it necessary? And what about “quiet books”? Together we’ll examine mentor texts to see strong and varied examples of plot. Finally, we’ll look at the start-to-finish process of creating a picture book with a strong plot—from manuscript to bound book and everything in between. Of course, we’ll have plenty of time for questions!

Sylvie Frank is Senior Editor at Paula Wiseman Books, a boutique imprint of Simon & Schuster’s Children’s Division. She is the editor of award-winning and critically acclaimed books including Strictly No Elephants by Lisa Mantchev, illustrated by Taeeun Yoo; I Have a Balloon by Ariel Bernstein, illustrated by Scott Magoon; Game Changers: The Story of Venus and Serena Williams by Lesa Cline-Ransome, illustrated by James E. Ransome; and OCDaniel by Wesley King. Since joining Paula Wiseman Books in 2013, Sylvie has been on the prowl for literary, character-driven middle grade and kid-focused, snappy picture books. She is drawn to original and diverse voices across all genres. One of her favorite pastimes is browsing agents’ and illustrators’ websites for new talent. When she’s not reading, Sylvie can be found running while listening to audiobooks.

Therefore, live viewing will be first come, first served. A recording will be made available to all of our members for thirty days; the link to the recording will be sent no later than 48 hours after the event. *If you know you can’t attend live, there is no need to register. The recording link will be sent to ALL RMC members.

Please do not share the link or recording with anyone else, make any screen-captures during the live session or the recording, or record the session on your own.
All presentation content is copyrighted material. In addition, sharing the link to register with nonmembers will take up spots for our own members to join live. Lastly, sharing this link with unintended recipients will increase the possibilities of hackers or other individuals with malicious intent to “crash” our Zoom meeting with inappropriate content. We would hate for this to happen in our webinar, and one of the best ways to prevent this is by keeping the link contained to only those who have registered to attend.
