Join us for a discussion of  “The Status of #OwnVoices and #WeNeedDiverseBooks, and What Readers Really Want.” Using recent controversies – and the May 21 SCBWI Digital Workshop conversation (“A Creative Look at the State of Children’s/YA Books”) – as a springboard, we’ll discuss the four things readers want, the definition of “authenticity” according to literary agent Marietta Zacker, and why the diverse voices movement is here to stay. As many of us will sometimes navigate the intricacies of writing outside our experiences, regardless of the genre in which we write, we’ll also discuss how some of us have done so in the most respectful ways. SCBWI member and Diverse Fort Collins founder Katherine Valdez will facilitate the discussion. See bio information at www.KatherineValdez.com and DiverseFortCollins.com
