What: Writing the Micro, Mini, and Scene-length flashback
When: March 11, 2017 1:00 p.m. – 3 p.m. (please note slight change in time!)
Where: Kim's house–Jer will send the address a few days before the event to those who have RSVP'd
What: Let's talk about flashbacks and how they serve your story! When is it appropriate to utilize flashbacks in your story? What's the difference between a flashback and an info dump? We'll discuss these questions and more, as well as the purpose of flashbacks and how they can help rivet your reader.
Though this session will focus on middle grade and young adult novels, picture book writers are welcome–the information you learn may never make it into your story, but it will help you develop fleshed-out characters–knowing your characters inside and out will help you write authentic scenes and in an authentic voice.
During this connect we'd love to hear from you, too. Please bring a middle grade or YA novel with a flashback scene you admire…or, simply come to listen and soak in the discussion!
What to bring:
1. a snack to share
2. Your example of a great flashback scene (it's okay if you don't have one)
Please RSVP! Email Jerilyn Patterson at firstname.lastname@example.org and let her know if you're planning to come.
