DETAILS:  Dustin Resch will speak on the topic of Taking the Mystery out of Photoshop: Digital Workflow with Layers. The true power of digital tools for a traditional artist is the ability to make changes to a painting based on an Art Director’s notes without having to start over from scratch, or repaint everything. It’s possible to keep all of the texture and variation and handmade appeal of a painting while making modifications (even drastic ones) to a completed piece. We will unlock the power of Photoshop’s layer system without being overwhelmed by the billion scary buttons. We will take apart an existing digital illustration to see how the pieces are put together, and we will take a traditional scanned painting and use Photoshop to clean and tighten it up. We will explore using real-world textures to add grit and variation to an image and apply subtle enhancement tools to get the most out of an illustration. The lessons from Photoshop can be used with other tools, such as Painter and Procreate and Sketchbook Pro, so bring your iPad or your Surface or your laptop even if you’re not a Photoshop user. Note: Computers are not required and also will not be supplied in the classroom.

SPEAKER: Dustin Resch is a veteran illustrator and graphic designer with an MFA in Children’s Book Illustration from the Academy of Art University. His work can be seen at http://dustinresch.com/.
