We will have a presentation by Amy Dominy on Dialogue (see details below), and then critique each others’ work. Please bring a snack to share (we will provide water bottles, plates and napkins). If desired, bring 12 copies of up to 750 words of a manuscript, query, synopsis or pitch for critiquing (or just come listen and share your thoughts). If you know you are coming, we would love an RSVP to give a rough count to know how many tables to set up (Wendi Silvano at firstname.lastname@example.org).
FROM THE STAGE TO THE PAGE: WRITING DIALOGUE
Do you struggle to write natural, realistic dialogue? Are you confused about dialogue tags and how to add emotion and action to dialogue scenes? And how do you give characters distinctive voices?
Join author Amy Fellner Dominy as she breaks down the elements of dialogue and provides concrete tips and tricks to writing stronger scenes. Amy began as a playwright so she has a unique background and understanding of dialogue. The same techniques she learned for the stage have helped her become a published author of picture books and novels for young adult and middle grade.
BIO: Amy Fellner Dominy is an MFA playwright and the award-winning author of 7 books for kids of all ages. Amy’s novels for teens and tweens include The Fall of Grace; Die for You; A Matter of Heart; Audition & Subtraction; and OyMG, a Sydney Taylor Notable Book.
