Topic: The Other Spices in the Cabinet: Poetic Devices and How to Stir Them into Your Writing

Whether you are writing picture books or novels, there are always two important truths at the forefront: there needs to be a story, and it needs to be told well.
However, how you tell the story, just like cooking, is completely up to you, and there is a wide variety of flavors and spices available—some you may not have considered or even heard of before! In this presentation, we’ll be discussing poetic devices beyond rhyme and the ways that they can bring out your writing voice, build structure, and even serve as brainstorming tools.
Remaining time: Critiques. Share (on screen or orally) your entire picture book manuscript or an excerpt (5 pages) of your Chapter Book, MG or YA manuscript.
