LIZZIE DEMANDS A SEAT: ELIZABETH JENNINGS FIGHTS FOR STREETCAR RIGHTS by Beth Anderson, illustrated by E.B. Lewis, has been shortlisted for a new literary award, the Goddard Riverside CBC Young People’s Book Prize for Social Justice. The winner will be announced on October 29.

 

Our Animal Neighbors, co-written by SCBWI author, Jason Gruhl, and Matthieu Ricard has won a Gold Moonbeam Children’s Award In the category of Animals/Pets Non-fiction. This is Jason’s first award for a children’s picture book.

 

 

Darby Karchut’s ON A GOOD HORSE releases November 10 from Owl Hollow Press. This contemporary MG tells the story of an estranged father and son, and the remarkable horse that brings them together for a second chance at happiness. For more info, visit the author here.

 

Jessica Speer signed a contract with Familius for her third middle-grade book, PHONE CHRONICLES. Her first book, BFF or NRF (NOT REALLY FRIENDS), will be released July 2021. Her second book, DISSECTING MIDDLE SCHOOL will be released in 2022. Jessica blogs about kids and parenting on her website.

 

Andrea Wang’s upcoming picture book, WATERCRESS, has been chosen as a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. WATERCRESS, illustrated by Caldecott Honoree Jason Chin, will be published on March 30, 2021 by Neal Porter Books/Holiday House Books.

 

Natasha Wing’s new book in her Night Before series is THE NIGHT BEFORE THE WEDDING (Grosset & Dunlap). It is coming out January 12, 2021, 4 days before her 33rd anniversary!
