Jennifer Chambliss Bertman’s third book in the bestselling Book Scavenger series, THE ALCATRAZ ESCAPE, is a Junior Library Guild selection and an Amazon Best Spring Book for Ages 9-12.


Jolene Gutiérrez was awarded the Yuyi Morales scholarship to attend the Children’s Book Academy.

Amy Hempe, RMC SCBWI member since 2017, has been nominated for two blogging awards from BlogPaws: Best Written Pet Post and Best Humor Blog for her blog She is working on turning her dogs’ stories into a chapter book called The Adventures of Noodle and Bumblebee.

Claudia Cangilla McAdam’s screenplay, AWAKENING, is a finalist for the Colorado Authors League Award in the screenplay division. The script is an adaptation of her YA novel of the same name. Winners to be announced May 4, 2018 at the CAL banquet at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada.


A new middle-grade fiction book by Phyllis J. Perry, BUDDIES, BULLIES, AND BASEBALL, will be released by TCK Publishing August 15th. In the book, a German-speaking student joins Jack’s circle of close friends. Two classmates bullying them almost spoils the excitement of the Colorado Rockies playing in the World Series.


Dian Curtis Regan’s picture book, Space Boy and the Snow Monster, is a finalist for the 2018 Colorado Authors’ League Award. There will be a reading and signing for the finalists at The Tattered Cover (Aspen Grove, 7301 S. Santa Fe, Littleton) on Sunday, April 29th at 1:30.


BURN, Judith Robbins Rose’s YA work-in-progress, took a first place for Mainstream/Literary/Historical and a third place in the Young Adult category in Pikes Peak Writers’ 2018 Zebulon Contest.


Shelly Steig is delighted to announce she signed with Laura Bradford of the Bradford Literary Agency for her middle grade novel, FAUX REAL.


The late Caroline Stutson, longtime SCBWI member and much-beloved local author, has been posthumously honored by having her picture book BLUE CORN SOUP named as a finalist in Children’s Literature for both the Colorado Book Award and the Colorado Authors League Award.


THE BUNNY POETS by Barbara Toboni and illustrated by Sandy Ferguson Fuller published April 2018 by MacLaren-Cochrane Publishing. Lively full-color illustrations showcase the antics of bunny pals, Percy and Bonny, as they explore how to create a poem together.


Mariko Tatsumoto’s Young Adult novel, GUTLESS, published by Ichiban Books LLC on February 19, 2017, won the 2018 Paterson Prize for Books for Young People. The book is available through all online retailers.
